Historical Fun Fact!
In the early 1900s, Clark County was served by the Guerrants Mountain Mission Clinic and hospital, which we now know as the Bluegrass Heritage Museum. As the community grew, the need for a larger hospital was apparent. On March 17th, 1917, Clark County Hospital opened on the corner of Lexington and Wainscott Avenue. Much of the funding for this hospital was obtained through donations from the community. One notable donor was founder of Winchester's own Ale-8 One, George Lee Wainscott. Mr. Wainscott’s contribution allowed the hospital to build living quarters for nurses at Clark County Hospital. This two-story home still stands today as Wainscott Hall, our shelter. We are proud to have a part in our community’s history in serving those in need.
